I'm not dead, though spring quarter tried really hard to kill me. 2 more weeks and I'll be free!

And now, I have to say that as an animal rights supporter, I love to see matadors get fucked up by the bulls they torment to death for the sake of human entertainment. I was watching the Colbert Report and this made my night:

For anyone who thinks this a little harsh, let me just remind you that the bull is stabbed with about a dozen of those poles until it's so exhausted from blood loss that the matador can get close enough to run a sword through its heart. Then while the matador struts around in his macho sequins, the bull is dragged out of the arena to be butchered and cooked up out back of the stadium for the crowd to eat on their way home.

I think the Most Awesome Uppercut Ever is a mild form of payback.

wait, there's more.

before the bull is released into the ring, he has been given strong diuretics. so they are feeling dehydrated, and have sharp abdominal pains, are then stabbed and harassed, which provokes even the mildest, sickest animal into a very...cranky mood. the temperament the crowd expects.

bullfighting is phony, sick, barbaric ritual-killing, which needs to end soon, along with bear-baiting, dog fighting, cock fighting, and all other abuse of life.

still not happy to see the pics, but yeah...

Ugh. I didn't know they drugged them on top of everything else. That's like hunters using high powered scopes. Not defending any of it, but if its the sense of conquest they're going for, why take all the challenge out of it?

I used to want to be an animal cop, like on tv, but I knew I couldn't because I would lose my job for getting violent with owner/abusers.

cops are enforcers of codified law. sharing these images and initiating discussion is what gets laws changed, and change adopted. you have far more power as a writer than a cop. you know, "the pen is mightier than the picador!" or something.

srsly, keep it up. ppl are so inundated by information they become desensitized. they don't have enough bandwidth or focus to deal with multiple issues. but with enough repetition and exposure to shocking outcomes (as in the pics above) we can hope to move public awareness toward reform. thank you for seizing the moment.

PSYCHIC MUCH?

They also cut the tendon on the back of their neck so that it's difficult to lift their heads.

I think bullfighting should be outlawed along with sea worlds and circuses!

And ouch, that must have hurt bad.

I didn't know that either. Ive been boycotting the circus since I was a kid, when I first learned how they get the animals to do tricks. Rodeos too.

YAY FREEDOM!!! I just have finals next week and then DONE til fall</strike. ...ow. Kinda gory. :| Even though I'm firmly of the opinion that matadors should get what's coming to them, I'm going to go find something a little more pleasant to look at. *googles Black Lagoon doujins*

Yeah it is gory, but I tend to focus more on the streams of blood coming out of the poor exhausted bull, who is literally being tortured to death.

My finals are next week too. I just turned in my last "regular" assignment today. Now its all projects and tests. Joy.

I can't abide that shit. That's why I don't watch it.

I just took my last two finals today. My other one was due online on Friday before finals week actually started. I'm done...and I'm so relieved.

I had thought about you the other day and what you were up to.

No matter how I look at those pictures part of me wonders how they got the guy and the bull apart....

HOLY SHIT! I love animals and all, and dislike seeing them abused, but from a sociological point of view, it's Spain's culture, so, I'm not going to judge but DUDE, That looks like if freaking HURTS! XD

I don't think it being part of Spanish/Mexican culture is an excuse for violence and inhumanity. Because technically, slavery was a big part of US culture for 200 years, and we continued to regularly lynch black people until the 1950s and later. It was also a form of entertainment and "culture" - public events attended by women and children. Doesn't make it okay.

Yes, I agree with you, it's Torture against the bull, who can't defend itself...
But you know what? It's even worst to have to watch every fucking day of my life, kids dying on the streets because of stray bullets, from weapons that are sold to big drug Capos by USA citizens.

It's horrible, to know that a great number of turist from USA, Canada and other parts of the world that call themselves "Developed countries", come to Mexico because they are taking advantage of our poor laws, and are atracted to children prostitues.

It's even worst to know that in Arizona some cops killed an oldman that was returning to Mexico, just in the same way that a "matador", kills a bull, because he was "mexican".

It's even more fucking horrible, to know that in a country so developed and full of culture and technologic advances, some citizens go unpunished because they like to play "Kill the inmigrant, get the target".

I think, that when you want to clean the world, you have to start from your home. If violence between humans beings is not erradicated, violence against animals will not be either. I think it's a shame that bulls receive so many support ( don't get me worng, they deserve to be helped, I am against torture after all), but other humans in suffering, are just ignored.

Examples: Irak, Africa, Mexico (latin america in general).

Maybe I am a bad person, but I can stand a bull being tortured.... what I cannot stand is the human beings in Guantanamo being tortured.
(at least, the meat from de bulls can be of use to feed a family,,,, on other hand, an innocent man tortured in Guantanamo...)
And I think that being angry about Bulls being tortured, and saying that "a matador being hurt" made your night it's pretty hypocrital. Pain and suffering is bad, for both the matador and for the animal. Toreo is wrong because it brings suffering to both parts.

Yes, the US is deeply racist on a systemic, institutional level, and that affects the attitudes of its people. And yes, many act like total douchebags when they travel. I'm well aware that the rest of the world has valid reasons for not liking us.

I agree with all of your points, but none of them invalidate mine. Bullfighting and any other form of animal cruelty entertainment are atrocious and need to be stopped. And yes, I take satisfaction in seeing those who hurt animals getting what they deserve. I would just as much like to see the border vigilantes, the Tea Party, and all the hate groups in this country get what they deserve too.

Don't assume that just because I chose to write in my journal about this particular issue, that I'm unaware, unconcerned, or unvocal about any other issue of violence and inhumanity. In fact I gave a lecture at a local high school today about racism, and the situation in Arizona was a key point. I don't just bitch about injustice, I am an activist. You don't know me, and I don't appreciate your accusatory tone. Not all Americans are ignorant hypocrites.

It was not my intention to use an accusatory tone (unfortunately, I can't write the way I want because this I am not so used to English as I am to Spanish), What I was trying to say is that violence just creates more violence. Torear in some level, is about enjoying the primitive feeling of violence.

If we enjoy/like any result of that (being the bull being tortured, or the "matador" being hurt), then we are being part of the problem because We are enjoying the violence of the act, and that is the objetive of "Torear".

You know, there is this video about some mexican capo (bad guy who did the most unspeakeable things to men, women and children alike), being horribly tortured and killed. I didn't think he's getting what he deserves, I couldn't even watch it. It not that I freak over blood, it's the fact that watching someone suffer in that way, it's not justice.

I think that unfortunately, there are a lot of "sports" that take advantage of people economic needs, to make them sacrifice their integrity and humanity. Box and Toreo are part of them.

I know you are against racism, and I have had the opportunity to discuss topics like this one with you in other ocassions, I know you are very open minded and your ideas are refreshing (in fact, I admire your views about feminism, and I had felt identified with some of your experiences with racism). I don't think all americans are ignorant hypocrites (that would be racist and unfair). What I think it's that first, we have to focus in reduce violence between humans beings, so that people can respect animals. That's what i was trying to say with the thing about clean your own home first, and after clean the world.

I just think that animal cruelty is as wrong as taking advantage of people economic need and putting them in those situations. I don't think anybody is getting what they deserve, I think that this kind of situation has no winner.

Being free is always awesome. Can't wait to see you around more often. :)

While I admit that those pictures are a little difficult to look at (at first I didn't even know what I was looking at), I kind of do agree with you. I don't agree with animals being treated like that, and I do think that offenders should be penalized. I think that the widely accepting of this treatment of animals (like bull-fighting) is wrong, and the punishment should be more severe.
