...enslaved to schoolwork. But today is the last day of class! Its over! I'm FREE and I have whole month off! Look forward to fic updates and art posts galore in the next few weeks.

Anyway. I did this rare piece of original artwork for my history class, and I figured I would share since I'm sure there are a lot of awesome ladies on my f-list who know and love this particular historical figure:

Bigger version at DA.

Nice! I like it. Especially the hair.

Have you ever gone over to www.conceptart.org? They have weekly characters of the week contests. I'm participating this week, it's The Morrigan. You should check it out once you're on break.

yeah! where has she been lately????

meanwhile, clicked on this page and looked at the startling, awesome pic before reading what you wrote above it (because, well, it was just so compelling...) and placed her immediately, i mean, one of those instant recognition, omg pop-you-on-the-head things (although i thought her name was spelled differently. looked it up since then.)
it can only, only be her. just wow. you are really channeling her.

Boudicca is one of my favorite historical people, both as a woman and as a descendant of the Celts (though I'm Irish, not a Briton). She represents pretty much everything I admire. Her story is amazing...they really should make a movie out of it. And Cate Blanchett needs to play her.

It used to be spelled Boadicea, but it was a mistranslation that was officially corrected recently.

i think i first encountered her in the histories i read by Bede, aka "the Venerable Bede". my question to you is, was she Celtic or Pictish? some Picts looked like her.

The Picts were the proto-Celtic people of Scotland, who shared an almost identical culture. The Celts were made up of Gaels (Irish), Scota, Britons, Welsh, Cornish, Iberians (Spain) and Gauls (France). Boudicca was from the Iceni tribe which was located in southern England, making her a Briton.

Thanks! I don't know much about Zenobia, but I did write an essay on Artemisia - the female commander in the Persian army under Xerxes.
