BSG Final Thoughts

I finished the series, after a crazy week long marathon. Overall I loved it. I love stories where everything is connected and has a purpose (Lost is another one of my favorite shows) and when its all over you can look back and see it all fall together. I really think its one of the best shows ever aired, for the many messages it conveys as well as the depth of the characters that makes us truly care for them - even the bad ones. Its so rare to have such a large cast of characters and have almost every one of them invoke real feelings in the audience. BSG is one of the most emotionally impacting shows I've ever watched. There were times - especially season 3 - when everything was so screwed up, but in the end I'm mostly happy with the way it all turned out.

It was really sad what happened with Felix Gaeta. I really liked him. I think everyone did, and maybe that was the point. Even the best people can go terribly wrong when they allow their anger and bitterness to conquer them. Aside from that, I also really liked that he was bisexual. You see more and more gay relationships in tv and movies now, but its still kind of rare to see a bi character. Just one more gold star on the progressive list for this series.

Helo, Athena, and Hera. I'm so glad they all lived happily ever after together. There were so many times I worried that Helo, and especially Athena, wouldn't make it. I loved this couple, and I'm happy they made it through.

And that brings me to Apollo and Starbuck. I have to say they are now one of my favorite couples of all time. They were never better than when they were together, especially Lee, who only truly seemed to be himself with Kara. I am SO sad they never got their time together, it really doesn't seem fair after all they went through.

I didn't like that Col. Tigh just seemed to forget about Caprica after their baby died. If I remember right (and I think I do, since its very fresh) they never even directly spoke after that. He just settled back in with Ellen and left Caprica to her own path. I don't think they should have stayed together, but he supposedly loved her and thought more of her than a baby vessel, so they should have resolved that.

I also wish they would have given us more story on Tory, more of her motivations. Its never explained why she killed Callie, it didn't even really seem to be jealousy; she didn't know about her past with Chief Tyrol when she did it, and even when they found out nothing changed between them. We should have known more about her, for all we knew about the other final 4 Cylons.

Gaius Baltar. He was the comic relief, and the one we despised for so many reasons. But I think he was the most lost out of everyone, and his long soul searching journey impacted a lot of people in mostly bad, but also good ways. The irony is that he possibly suffered the most out of everyone. I think finding redemption as a humble farmer in the end was fitting. I'm also glad he and Caprica ended up together, because I think she is the only person besides himself that he truly loved, and she is the only one who really understands and loves him in return.

And the lulz: All Along the Watchtower is the cosmic themesong. So the implication is that through the use of psychedelic drugs and musical genius, Jimi Hendrix tapped into the secrets of the universe to (re)write that song? Haha. I guess it's fitting for one of the most epic songs ever created.

I loved Starbucks and Apollo and I still don't get why Kara just disappeared. :/ I know she was kinda like a old time prophet whose work was done and was taken up to the heavens.

But still :/

I don't know if she was an angel, a ghost, a harbinger, or whatever, but I still think after everything she endured she should have been rewarded with that second life and a chance to finally be with her soulmate. T_T
